Celtic should allow Morgan to become a hero at St Mirren

Celtic fans had high hopes for Lewis Morgan this season after his summer arrival.

The Bhoys had initially signed Morgan from St Mirren in January 2018 but sent him back on loan to Scottish Championship side St Mirren.

The young winger helped St Mirren to promotion, scoring 18 goals from the wide positions in the 2017/18 season.

Brendan Rodgers decided not to loan Morgan out last summer and instead kept him at Celtic. But after finding playing time hard to come by, a January loan move could be on the cards.

Morgan has managed just 13 outings for Celtic and has been a bench warmer for most of the campaign.

But perhaps a loan exit would be the best thing for his long-term development, with several clubs keen on the lively youngster.

The Daily Star believe League One side Sunderland want Morgan, while The Daily Record claims that Hibernian are interested.

The Scottish Sun adds St Mirren’s interest to the equation and this is the logical next step in Morgan’s career.

The 22-year-old would be returning to his former club, who are now playing top flight football and it will be a familiar environment for him.

After scoring 29 goals in three seasons with St Mirren – 28 of which came in his previous two campaigns – Morgan is a popular figure at Paisley.

The twice-capped Scotland international can become a hero at St Mirren if he can guide his former club to safety during his loan spell.

Then, he could return to Celtic with Scottish Premiership experience under his belt, ready to push for a starting spot.
