Celtic round-up: Rodgers eyes more signings, Dani Alves influence, Bitton returns

Rodgers eyes more signings

Brendan Rodgers has excited Celtic fans by declaring he’s in the market for more players to join the club this month.

Celtic completed a £2 milliom move for Vakoun Issouf Bayo on Tuesday.

The Ivorian is Rodgers’ third buy of the January window so far, with Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah the other two incomings.

The manager said as quoted by The Scotsman: “We will look to do more business, January is important for us. It’s not just trying to improve the squad for now but also for whatever summer qualification games we have.”

As reported by The Scottish Sun, the teenager felt compelled to move to Parkhead after his teammate vouched for the club and its ‘great supporters’, ‘great stadium’ and ‘great coaching staff’.

Weah also stated that Thomas Meunier also pushed him in the direction of the Scottish giants.

Bitton returns

Celtic’s forgotton man Nir Bitton has finally resumed training with the first-team (The Daily Record).

The Israeli midfielder is being put through his paces in Dubai as the team try to keep supple ahead during Scotland’s mid-season break.

Bitton has been out of the picture since November 2017 after he sustained a seemingly innocuous knee injury against Ross County.

After continuing to train and play, he was then told he’d need surgery, and he’s been recovering and rehabilitating ever since.

Bitton joined the club in 2013 from FC Ashdod and has made 171 appearances for the club, and he’ll be hoping to add to that tally again before long.
