Celtic round-up: Hartson on Rodgers-Newcastle, Benkovic opens up & Arzani ready?

Hartson on Rodgers

Celtic legend John Hartson believes that Brendan Rodgers has no intention of replacing Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United.

The Irishman has been linked with the Magpies job recently, but Hartson reckons the manager eyes will not wander ans will attempt to deliver more trophies at Parkead this season.

He said, via the Daily Star: “I don’t care if Newcastle are looking at him and thinking that he might be the man if they part company with Rafa Benitez.

“He has told me personally that he is happy with his life and happy at his work in Glasgow.

“As I have said in this column already, if I end up with egg on my face then so be it and I am sure I won’t be able to open my phone without being reminded of it on a daily basis.

“But I honestly believe what I am saying. I think Brendan has his heart set on being the man to deliver the ten.”

Benkovic opens up

Bhoys loan defender Filip Benkovic has spoken of the death of his father as a young child.

Opening up to the official Celtic website, he said: “I lost my dad very suddenly when I was seven. He died of a heart condition. It was very difficult for us because nobody expected it. He seemed very healthy and then all of a sudden he was gone.

“That was very hard for us all because we missed him very much. My mum worked various jobs to take care of us. She didn’t have a full-time job so she worked different jobs to make ends meet. I really appreciate everything she did for my sister and I growing up. She fought for us every day and she is like a superhero in my eyes.”

The courageous Croatian, who has impressed the Celtic faithful despite making just four appearances so far, will be hoping to start against RB Leipzig on Thursday in the Europa League.

Arzani ready?

Daniel Arzani missed the club’s reserve match with Partick Thistle on Tuesday, and some believe it’s because he’s ready to be integrated into the first-team at last.

The Australian starlet, on a two-year loan from Manchester City, is yet to make his senior debut for the Scottish giants.

He has been training with the first team ahead of the game with Leipzig, but he won’t be able to feature against them as he wasn’t included in Rodgers’ Europa League squad. He could well be in line to make the bench against Hearts at the weekend though.
