Celtic have reportedly joined numerous Premier League and European clubs in pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur winger Ryan Sessegnon with the north Londoners ready to let him go on loan – and Chris Sutton once raved about the player’s speed.
Sessegnon, 20, joined Tottenham from Fulham last summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £25million. But injuries hampered his start under Mauricio Pochettino – before Jose Mourinho replaced the Argentine last November as manager.
The Scottish Daily Mail claimed in Thursday’s paper edition (back page – 81) claimed Celtic have joined Leeds, Brighton, Southampton, Ajax and Hertha Berlin in the race to sign the England Under-21 international on loan before Monday.
Sessegnon scored during a 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Germany back in December, lashing a shot past Manuel Neuer. Sutton reacted in his colum with the Mail, claiming he is “rapid” – and out-paced French star Benjamin Pavard.
“Pushed further forward, he showed how rapid he is, too,” Sutton said on Sessegnon after his goal against Bayern. “He was taking yards off Benjamin Pavard, the France right back tasked with keeping him quiet. The future is bright.”

TBR’s view – Sessegnon would be a top Celtic signing, for two reasons
Jonny Hayes returned to Aberdeen, meaning Sessegnon would add crucial cover on the left side of defence if he moved to Glasgow. Similarly, he would provide competition for Mo Elyounoussi and James Forrest – again, much-needed.
Sessegnon is ideal, for both positions.
