Celtic reportedly want player once tipped to become 'one of the best centre-backs in England'

Celtic have just begun life under Ange Postecoglou and the new manager doesn’t seem to be wasting time in identifying new signings.

The Hoops endured a dismal season last time out, finishing empty-handed for 2020-21 and second in the Scottish Premiership table.

Postecoglou has apparently identified central defence, right-back and wingers as priority positions at Celtic.

And one player currently being linked with the Hoops would certainly go a long way to addressing their defensive issues.

That player is Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The Daily Record reported that the 23-year-old is set to leave Spurs this summer, and that Celtic have made contact over his signature.

However, the Bhoys are apparently in competition with Bournemouth, where he spent last season on loan.

The outlet also claims that Carter-Vickers has a £5million price tag.

Who is Cameron Carter-Vickers?

Carter-Vickers has come through the ranks at Spurs and made his debut in 2016.

However, he has only made four senior appearances for the London club.

But at the same time, Carter-Vickers has won eight caps for the United States national team.

And he has done very well on loan at Luton and Bournemouth in the English Championship.

Carter-Vickers is a quick defender who is also strong and dominant in the air – at Luton, he averaged 6.6 clearances per game.

He also boasts impressive passing accuracy, completing 84 percent of his passes for Bournemouth last term.

Pochettino praise

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino took a liking to Carter-Vickers after he reached the first-team.

Football.london reported last year that, after watching him play, Pochettino said he could develop into “one of the best centre backs in England”.

The former Spurs boss used Carter-Vickers frequently in cup competitions.

However, he never handed him his Premier League debut despite naming him on the bench a number of times.

Although it looks as though Carter-Vickers’ Tottenham career could be coming to an end, he has enough quality about him to excel elsewhere.

Could that “elsewhere” be Celtic?
