Rangers and Celtic are set to increase their interest in Stoke City forward Tyrese Campbell, according to The Scottish Sun.
It is being claimed that both Old Firm clubs have informed the Potters of their intentions to discuss pre-contract terms with Campbell following their return from Dubai.
Both clubs are currently on mid-season training camps in the Middle East.
Campbell is out of contract with the Championship outfit during the summer. He could be available for as little as £400,000 when his contract runs down following this season.
Celtic’s interest has been evident for a while, with Rangers showing a desire to sign the player on the back of some recent good form.
Both clubs have proved savvy in the transfer market over the years and both will get the chance to pitch themselves to Campbell.
The 20-year-old scored for goals in the Championship this season. He recently claimed a superb brace during a 5-2 victory over Huddersfield Town.
Both clubs are currently still involved in European competition, whilst the title race is the closest run race in years.
Other clubs could declare an interest in Campbell but right now the Old Firm looks to have the edge.
TBR View – Celtic need Campbell more than Rangers do
Neil Lennon must do all he can to convince Campbell that the Hoops are the club for him.
Odsonne Edouard is currently banging them in but he will surely get snapped up in the summer.
The same could be said about Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox, although his temperament could see his chances of a big-money switch hampered somewhat.
Celtic know that Rangers are significantly closing the gap. The title race right now could go either way.
If the Hoops could lure Campbell to Celtic Park it would send out a firm message that they’re still the top dogs in Scotland.
The Hoops don’t have much in reserve after Edouard and it’s fair to say Lennon needs Campbell more than Steven Gerrard needs him at Rangers.
