Both Celtic and Rangers have been urged to consider a move to sign Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist this summer as the Swiss stopper continues to catch the eye – by ex-United player Lee Wilkie.
Siegrist, 29, has been in excellent form once again this season at Tannadice – keeping 10 clean sheets in 30 Premiership games, a solid stat for a side that have only just gained promotion. He has only conceded 36 goals.
Having signed for the club in 2018, Swiss-born Siegrist has now surpassed 100 appearances for Dundee United – producing an impressive 37 clean sheets in his 101 outings. His form has already caught the eye.
Indeed, both Celtic and Rangers have been linked with the goalkeeper – with the Hoops certainly in need of a goalkeeper. Now, ex-Scotland international Wilkie thinks the Old Firm, or English clubs, should consider him.

“He’s got a bit of everything, plus his communication is excellent and he seems to have his head screwed on,” Wilkie told the Evening Times. “If I was a manager of a team down south, or the Old Firm, I’d be all over him.
“He’s a decent size, he’s got great reflexes and can move about the goal really well for a big lad. The shape becomes a bit better and everything just filters through the team. It gives you confidence and an edge.”
TBR’s view – Celtic easily need Siegrist more than Rangers
The question mark is, that would Siegrist be the kind of signing that would take Celtic forward? Right now, he is certainly better than what Celtic have between the sticks in Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard.
But is he the big name that Celtic fans expect? Probably not. The advantages are that he is hardly likely to cost an extravagant figure, and that he has Scottish Premiership experience. But Celtic fans may want a bigger name.
In terms of whether Celtic need him more than their Old Firm rivals? Without a doubt.
