Moussa Dembele has completed a loan-to-buy move from Lyon to Atletico Madrid in a deal that could eventually cost the Spanish side £35.5million – prompting reaction from Celtic players and Scott Sinclair on Instagram.
Dembele, 24, joined Lyon from Celtic in the summer of 2018 – netting 44 goals in 92 league and cup appearances, as well as laying on 13 assists. But the Frenchman has only managed one goal in 16 Lyon outings this term.
That saw him become expendable at Lyon and Atletico have pounced. Goal claim Atletico have paid a £1.1million loan fee, with a permanent deal of £30million included – and the possibility of another £4.4million in bonuses.
Dembele, who was a favourite at Celtic during his two-year stay at the club under Brendan Rodgers, posted on Instagram after completing a move to Diego Simeone’s side, replacing Diego Costa who has left on a free transfer.
Dembele netted a whopping 51 goals in his time at Celtic – playing six games shy of 100, after initially completing a move to the Scottish champions from English side Fulham. Now, he is considered one of the best in Europe.
Scott Sinclair posted a touching message to Dembele on his Instagram post, while Karamoko Dembele told his namesake it was his “time to shine”. Odsonne Edouard also uploaded a picture of Dembele on his Instagram story.
