Report: Celtic open talks with Tottenham over quick-fire deal for international defender
Celtic are reportedly in talks with Tottenham over completing a deal for Cameron Carter-Vickers as they look to ensure they tie the USA international down to a long-term deal at Parkhead.
The Bhoys have an option to buy Carter-Vickers with their initial loan deal anyway. However, the Daily Record have claimed that Celtic have now instantly opened talks in January about sorting the deal quickly. As has been widely reported, it’s believed a fee of around £6m will be enough.
However, the Record have claimed that talks have now ‘kicked off’, and there is believed to be wiggle room in terms of the fee, when it is paid, and any future add-ons. That, of course, will suit Celtic down to the ground as it sounds like they might be able to dictate some terms.
Carter-Vickers has been in outstanding form for Celtic since he arrived. Now a mainstay of the team under Ange Postecoglou, Bhoys fans are desperate to see the Spurs defender sign long-term.
Celtic are currently six points behind Rangers in the SPFL title race. However, they do sit nine points ahead of Hearts in third place.
TBR’s View: Celtic Need To Tie Down Carter-Vickers ASAP
What a turnaround for Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic. He’s gone from being nowhere near at Tottenham and now looks like being the international defender he is capable of being.
If Celtic can do a structured deal here with just a £6m fee and a few add-ons involved, then it really does seem like a bargain deal. His form in Scotland has been nothing short of excellent, and there might even be some at Spurs wondering what might have been.
With January now well underway and teams able to get deals done, it feels imperative that Celtic get the transfer of Carter-Vickers done ASAP.
