Celtic manager Neil Lennon was on a personal scouting mission last night as Connah’s Quay took on Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League.

The Northern Irish boss was keen to run the rule over towering central defender Strahinja Pavlovic, according to the Daily Record.

Belgrade were narrow 1-0 victors over the Welsh outfit.

Lennon is keen to add to his Celtic ranks ahead of the domestic campaign getting underway – with a defender likely to be on the agenda.

Pavlovic didn’t have an awful lot to do in Rhyl last night, with a large percentage of possession in favour of the Serbian outfit.

The Serbian youth international made his professional debut in February, making 15 appearances in total last season.

He is predominantly a central defender but is also capable of filling in at defensive midfield.

According to the report he has previously been on the radar of Juventus.

TBR Verdict

This signing would represent a very similar one to that of Kristoffer Ajer in 2016.

He arrived from Start as a teenager and has gone onto become one of Celtic’s most impressive performers.

The fact that Pavlovic can play in a couple of positions would make him a useful asset for the Hoops.

Like Ajer, Pavlovic looks set for a bright future.

He is primarily a left-footer and that would help give Celtic’s back four some much-needed balance.

Celtic supporters would probably like a bigger name added.

During a summer where Rangers have added lots of sizeable names to their ranks, Celtic are craving a stellar addition.

Pavlovic wouldn’t be a bad piece of business, with one eye on the future, but Lennon could do with one big addition before the window closes.
