Celtic need to wrap up their contract talks with midfielder Scott Brown swiftly, as Western Melbourne are reportedly preparing an ambitious move for him.
According to the Daily Mail, Western Melbourne have applied to join the Australian A-League and want to make a marquee signing if they are accepted.
It is understood that Celtic captain Brown is firmly their radar and he’s out of contract at Parkhead in the summer.
But the report adds that the 33-year-old is in ongoing talks with chief executive Peter Lawwell about an extended deal with the Scottish giants.
Celtic fans shouldn’t be too concerned about losing their skipper, but the club shouldn’t risk him having his head turned by the Australian league and are playing a risky game letting his contract run down.

Brown is still one of the most consistent performers for the Bhoys and doesn’t appears to be slowing down anytime soon.
The central midfielder is a leader both on and off the pitch, while he has racked up a staggering 483 appearances during his time at Celtic.
Current manager Brendan Rodgers still considers him to be a key player and has already used him in 18 games this season in all competitions.
Brown is the perfect mentor for midfield teammate Olivier Ntcham and the duo could still hold down a starting XI role together for years to come, which is why finalising the former’s contract imminently would be the best move.
