Celtic must surely ask Leeds about £16m star as Whites reportedly eye new winger - TBR View
Ange Postecoglou has plenty of work to do in the transfer window as Celtic look to bounce back from such a disappointing campaign.
One area the Hoops must strengthen this summer is in wider areas. They were crying out for James Forrest on several occasions while the Scotland international was injured last term.
And of course, they said goodbye to Mohamed Elyounoussi following the end of his loan spell. Diego Laxalt is another who seemingly will not be at Parkhead next year.
It looks imperative therefore, that wide players come in. And perhaps one name they should consider comes from Leeds United.
The Whites were outstanding in their first year back in the Premier League last season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men picked up admirers throughout the campaign. And it appears that they are looking to take a step forward this summer.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, they hope to strengthen in a number of positions. And one of the players they hope to sign is a winger.
That would leave questions surrounding Helder Costa‘s future at Elland Road.
Costa started the campaign with a couple of brilliant displays. He produced an amazing assist on the opening day at Liverpool. And he followed that up with two goals at Fulham.
However, the form of Jack Harrison and Raphinha meant that he soon became a more peripheral figure.
And if Leeds are going to bring a new winger in, Costa is surely going to have questions about his future.
Celtic should consider Helder Costa amid Hoops’ need for new winger
Admittedly, it may not be easy for Leeds to offload the 27-year-old. The Whites spent £16 million to sign him permanently.
But if Leeds are open to a compromise or even a loan deal, Celtic could do a lot worse than ask the question.
He had a direct hand in six goals last season. That is not a bad return from just 22 Premier League appearances. He only started 13 times.
Costa boasts a frightening amount of pace. And he is a hard-worker. He would feature a lot less for Bielsa’s men if he wasn’t.
A loan may actually have an upside for Leeds. If Costa impresses at Parkhead, his value should increase.
Like all wingers, he has the potential to prove incredibly frustrating. But he could be a potential game-changer this summer.
So if Leeds do bring a new winger in, Celtic should see whether there is scope to sign Costa.
