Celtic have had a £5 million bid rejected for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna. As reported by the Scottish Sun, a Scottish domestic record bid was put in for the Scotland international this week but Aberdeen are standing firm on their valuation.
The valuation in question is said to stand at around £10 million, an amount which would smash the current Scottish domestic transfer record of £4.4 million for Scott Brown in 2007.
TBR’s View
Celtic clearly need a new central defender. The Bhoys are struggling in the role after seeing Dedryck Boyata leave for Hertha Berlin and Filip Benkovic’s loan spell from Leicester City come to an end.

McKenna is clearly a top option to fulfill that role but a price-tag of £10 million certainly seems expensive.
But Aberdeen are in a strong position considering McKenna’s lengthy contract and Celtic may have to meet the asking price.
What Celtic do not want is a repeat of last summer’s move for John McGinn. The Bhoys struggled to match Hibernian’s valuation of the player and he eventually joined Aston Villa in a deal reportedly (The Scottish Sun) worth just £2.75 million.
McGinn went on to help Aston Villa to promotion and won the club’s player of the season award.
With English sides also circling around McKenna, Celtic cannot afford to miss out and must find a deal that works for all parties as soon as possible.
If not, they could let another domestic talent slip through their fingers.
