New Celtic signing Moritz Bauer relishing Rangers contest and Celtic Park atmosphere

New Celtic signing Moritz Bauer has told the club’s official website that he can’t wait to feel the atmosphere of the Old Firm derby; whilst his mum has given him a seal of approval over his loan switch from Stoke City.

The Hoops travel to Ibrox on Sunday for the first clash between Celtic and Rangers this season.

Right-back Bauer played 12 games for the Potters last season and moves to Celtic Park to bolster a problematic position for Neil Lennon.

The player with six Austria caps says he can’t wait to take to the field for the first time.

He told the club’s official website: “When I signed for Stoke, four days later I played at Old Trafford and I thought that couldn’t get any bigger.

“But no, with probably the biggest derby in the world coming up, it looks absolutely amazing. Let’s just see how this week does, but I’m buzzing for the atmosphere and to be part of the team.”

Celtic take on AIK tonight in their Europa League Play-Off second-leg before attentions quickly turn to Sunday’s massive league contest.

Bauer’s mum is sure to be his biggest fan now he has rocked up in Glasgow, having always fancied a visit to the club.

He continued: “My mum always said she wanted to visit Anfield and Celtic Park at least once in her life, I played at Anfield with Stoke and now I’m at Celtic Park and I’m really buzzing for her.”

TBR Verdict – Bauer a decent addition for the Hoops

Bauer’s comments regarding the atmosphere and size of Celtic are pretty much par for the course for a new recruit.

Having fallen out of favour at Stoke, however, he will be keen to make an impact during his loan spell at Celtic Park.

The 27-year-old played 15 times for Stoke in the English top-flight and his arrival at Celtic could prove a shrewd one for Lennon.

A right-back has been sought-after all summer long. Mikael Lustig departed weeks ago and hasn’t been replaced, although Bauer’s arrival will go a long way towards doing that.

After not featuring much last season the Austrian will be thankful for the first-team football and he could become a fan’s favourite at Celtic Park with his all-action style of play.
