Celtic defender claims Rangers star Jordan Jones apologised for horror challenge in Old Firm clash

On-loan Celtic defender Moritz Bauer has told The Scottish Sun that Rangers winger Jordan Jones apologised following his horror challenge in the recent Old Firm derby contest.

The 27-year-old was subjected to a wild lunge from the former Kilmarnock man in the closing stages of the game at Ibrox.

Such was the nature of the challenge that Jones injured himself rubbing salt in the wounds of his red card from the referee.

Bauer joined the Hoops in the summer from Stoke City and he has confirmed that an apology has been forthcoming.

He told The Scottish Sun: “I didn’t expect it so it was a very positive surprise.

“Obviously I wish no one got injured but unfortunately he caught himself a little bit.”

Celtic won the game 2-0 to give Neil Lennon’s team the early bragging rights for the 2019/20 campaign.

Jones won’t be available to boss Steven Gerrard for around a month and he has been left out of the squad for the group stages of the Europa League.

TBR Verdict – Bauer will hope to earn first-team place sooner rather than later

The 27-year-old can play in either full-back position and he should become a quality player for Celtic over the course of the campaign.

Bauer had lost his way at Stoke and he will hope that he doesn’t have to play a peripheral part at Celtic Park either.

Now that Jones has apologised, Bauer can get back on with playing football and he will surely hope to grasp an opportunity when Lennon feels forthcoming with a start in his team.
