Celtic are still hunting for defensive reinforcements with just over two weeks remaining of the summer transfer window.
Brendan Rodgers is aiming to sign an option to provide competition for Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers before the window shuts, although one target is now no longer available.
So, who have Celtic just missed out on? Let’s take a look…
Brentford close in on Celtic target Dara O’Shea
A story from the Telegraph now states that Celtic have lost out on the signing of Dara O’Shea to Brentford.
It is said that the Bees are closing in on a deal to sign the £7m Republic of Ireland international, who scored as Burnley recorded a 4-1 win over Luton in their Championship opener on Monday.
The Telegraph believe O’Shea was a leading target for Celtic, although Thomas Frank has been pushing hard to bring the 25-year-old to Brentford, and a deal is now close to being finalised.

In 33 Premier League appearances last season, the man from Dublin impressively scored three goals and also provided four assists while playing in central defence.
Brendan Rodgers has an alternative
While O’Shea may no longer be an option for Celtic, there is another defender the Bhoys could sign.
A story from Tutto Salernitana recently claimed that Celtic are still monitoring Flavius Daniliuc, who has a release clause worth just £4.3m written into his contract with Salernitana.
The Italian news outlet suggest that either Celtic or Como – or even both – could trigger this clause closer to deadline day, and take the central defender away from the Serie B side.

Daniliuc – who actually used to play as an attacker – was part of Austria’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024 this summer, and is widely expected to leave Salernitana.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Celtic, as we expect a new central defender to arrive in Glasgow before the transfer window ends on Friday 30th August.
