Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham needs the winter break

Celtic were extremely poor in the 1-0 defeat to Rangers on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership and there were very few players that could held their head up high after the Ibrox setback.

Olivier Ntcham was one of the worst culprits for the Bhoys of dropping a poor display and the winter break appears to be coming at a good time for him.

The 22-year-old completely lost the midfield battle against Rangers, as Ryan Jack scored the only goal of the game for the hosts.

Ntcham was off the pace against the opposition and it seemed like he was second to every ball in midfield.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

The Frenchman has at times looked a brilliant £4.5million (BBC) signing from Manchester City and been a rock in the centre of the park for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

But other times he’s gone missing and for large spells this campaign has been a shadow of the player he can be.

Celtic now go into the three-week winter break top of the league table only on goal difference and it’s a good time for some players to reflect on the midway point of the season.

Ntcham is perhaps fortunate he gets an opportunity to recharge his batteries and will look to come back later in January to redeem himself.

He has completely 90 minutes in four of the last five league games and is surely testing the patience of Rodgers after a shocker in the Old Firm.
