Celtic may need a more experienced right-back option than youngster Fonseca

Celtic have turned their attention to Porto youngster Fernando Fonseca as they look to solve their right-back worries, as per the Scottish Sun.

Brendan Rodgers has been in the market for new long-term option on the right hand side of his defence all month and he has reportedly grown keen on a swoop for the Portuguese.

Fonseca was the subject of a £2m bid from Juventus in the summer and with under 18 months left on his contract, he would reportedly be available for even less than that relatively low sum now.

But he has made just the three appearances for Porto’s B team so far this season, so being thrown in right away for Celtic would be a rather big jump up.

The fact that he has not played a lot this season is a concern as it raises questions over his development thus far, but the interest from Juventus is a sign of his raw talent.

But Celtic need a player who can live with the expectations at such a big club, as well as adjusting to the demands of Scottish football and living in a new country.

That would be a lot to take on for Fonseca and it may be that he would need until the end of the season – when Mikael Lustig’s contract expires – to find his feet.
