Celtic are desperately looking to bring a right-sided defender to Parkhead this summer, after losing Mikael Lustig to Belgian side Gent following the expiration of the Swedish star’s contract.

It remains to be seen if Lennon will spend big on a new right-back or just bring in a free agent, or indeed a loan. A multitude of right-backs have been linked in June, with the majority coming from down south.

Here are five right-backs linked with Celtic ranked on which would be the best addition, including Arsenal and Sheffield United stars.

5. George Baldock – Sheffield United

The Daily Mail claim Baldock is a target for Celtic, after helping Sheffield United gain promotion to the Premier League. However, he only broke into the Blades side towards the end of the season. Not good enough.

4. Tommy Smith – Huddersfield Town

The Examiner have claimed that Huddersfield skipper Smith, 27, is also a target for the Hoops. However, he was hardly better than mediocre when given the chance in the Premier League last term. At £3million, he is expensive.

3. Jack Stacey – Luton Town

The Scottish Sun have claimed 23-year-old Stacey is a £2million target for Celtic, after helping himself to four goals and eight assists as Luton gained promotion to the Championship. A solid signing with a big future.

2. Carl Jenkinson – Arsenal

According to The Scottish Mail on Sunday (back page, 16/06), Celtic fancy Arsenal’s out-of-favour defender Jenkinson. Likely to be available for nothing, the England cap and proven performer would be an excellent signing. Wages could be an issue.

1. Peter Ankersen – FC Copenhagen

The Sun have also claimed Peter Ankersen is a target for Celtic. Proven in the Champions League, a league champion with FC Copenhagen and eight assists last term, at £1.5million he is perfect.
