Celtic’s first bid for Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers has been rejected, according to reports from London.
It emerged this weekend that Celtic were keen on bringing in the St Kitts and Nevis international this summer.
The initial report from the Daily Record suggested that Celtic were readying a £2.5 million raid on the player.
The Daily Mail then reported that a £1.5 million bid for the player had been rejected by the Bees. Celtic were frankly never going to secure Sawyers for such a low fee.

But West London Sport have suggested the fee was, in fact, £2 million, but that Brentford rejected that offer. The report stated ‘Celtic were immediately knocked back’ after the offer was made for the 24-cap star.
Sawyers is certainly a player Celtic are right to be targeting. The all-action midfielder could be a great addition to the Bhoys midfield for next season.
The 27-year-old played 46 times for Brentford last season and took over the captaincy at Griffin Park from October.
Whilst his contract does only have 12 months left to run, Celtic will have to pay more than £2 million to convince Brentford into selling a key player.
