Rangers captain James Tavernier made an interesting claim on Twitter after The Gers beat Celtic 2-0 at Ibrox on Sunday, claiming “Glasgow is Blue” – which has prompted angry responses from Chris Sutton and Amido Balde.
An excellent free-kick from the Rangers skipper flew past Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain in just the second minute, after Mikey Johnston brought down Ryan Kent on the edge of the area.
Rangers made it two in the second half, as Glen Kamara’s wonderful midfield display came to the fore – outdoing Scott Brown and threading a ball through to Scott Arfield, via a Jermain Defoe dummy.
Arfield finished well and Tavernier posted on Twitter afterwards, claiming “Glasgow is blue”. But neither Sutton or Balde were impressed, and they reminded the defender that Celtic had made it eight in a row.

TBR’s view
Sutton and Balde are right, with Tavernier’s claim certainly not true given that Celtic are on course to complete a triple treble. Celtic still remain six points clear at the top, in what was Neil Lennon’s first defeat.
For Rangers to win an Old Firm derby, but Celtic to have won eight consecutive league titles, saying Glasgow is Blue is a push. But certainly Sunday’s showing makes for what will be an incredible title race next season.
