Celtic’s mixed start to the season has seen them lose five of their opening 23 matches across all competitions, but they did reach the Scottish League Cup final at the weekend.
Brendan Rodgers’ team have lost Europa League games to RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig to leave them with plenty of work in the group still to do, while they also slipped up to AEK Athens in qualification.
The Bhoys have also tasted two league defeats so far at the hands of Hearts and Kilmarnock, but are still firm favourites to retain their title.
One eye-catching stat from the defeats is that defender Kristoffer Ajer has not been involved in any of those matches.
The centre-back has been sidelined recently with a hamstring injury and his absence has been felt.
He returned to help Celtic beat Hearts in the cup semi-final at the weekend and looked extremely composed, while he’s also been involved in wins over the likes of Rangers and AEK Athens to highlight he’s still featured in big games.
Ajer is undefeated in his 14 appearances so far this campaign and he may be an underrated player at Parkhead.
The 20-year-old is still a rising talent that is maturing under Rodgers and needs to improve his decision making, but for his age is a vital player to the Celtic team.
