Scott Bain has told the Scottish Sun that if Celtic focus on themselves and play to their best ability then they will achieve a tenth consecutive Scottish title – labelling Jermain Defoe’s Rangers comments as “outside noise”.
With Celtic looking to make it 10 in a row, the rivalry has never been more fierce as the Gers look to stop the Hoops and win their first trophy under Steven Gerrard. Defoe thinks Rangers are more than capable of doing so.
He told the Beautiful Game Podcast that he believes Rangers have all the quality required to topple Celtic: “I sit and look at the players we have, there is some unbelievable talent. We just need to believe we can do it this year.”
However, Bain has bit back. Quoted by the Scottish Sun, he labelled Defoe’s quotes simply as “outside noise” and stated that if the Hoops can play to the best of their ability – then they will secure 10 in a row next May.

“It might sound like a cliche but it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” Bain said. “We always focus fully on one game at a time. If we can play the way we’re capable of, we can ignore the outside noise.”
Celtic will begin their defence of the Scottish Premiership title on August 2 when they play host to Hamilton at Celtic Park, while Rangers face a difficult opening fixtures – as they travel to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen.
The Gers and Celtic will both be taking part in a pre-season tournament in France in the coming weeks, while Gerrard’s men still face Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.
