Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard held a Q & A session on the club’s official Twitter account and named RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano as the toughest centre-back he has faced – and Celtic fans want the defender signed.
Edouard answered a series of questions and picked 20-year-old French centre-back Upamecano as the most difficult centre-back he has faced, after the Hoops took on RB Leipzig in the Europa League group stage last season.
The duo went toe to toe for the entire 90 minutes, both home away. In Germany, Upamecano had the upper hand as Leipzig kept a clean sheet with a 2-0 win – but Edouard had the last laugh during a 2-1 home win.
Upamecano, who also played alongside Edouard for France’s Under-19 side on occasion, was Edouard’s answer to the question – and French Eddy explained why he found it so tough against his fellow countryman.
SportBild claimed back in February that Upamecano is a transfer target for Bayern Munich this summer, with his contract – which has two years left to run – including a £90million release clause.
Nevertheless, Celtic fans reacted to Edouard’s praise of Upamecano, by urging their club to sign the centre-back from RB Leipzig, just hours after Edouard’s former Toulouse teammate Christopher Jullien was announced.
