Celtic take on Rangers at Hampden Park in the Betfred Cup final on Sunday afternoon as The Hoops look to start their pursuit of a fourth consecutive treble – and Celtic fans are desperate to see Jeremie Frimpong start at right-back.

Frimpong, 18, joined Celtic in the summer from Manchester City and has thrived north of the border. The Netherlands youth international is pushing to become Celtic’s first-choice right-back, though he has plenty of competition.

Neil Lennon identified right-back as an issue in the summer after losing Mikael Lustig, who moved to Belgium. Jeremy Toljan’s loan ended, and Anthony Ralston was not deemed ready. Celtic needed more than just one new right-back.

It saw Lennon spend money on Hatem Abd Elhamed, while also bringing Moritz Bauer to Parkhead on a season-long loan from English Championship side Stoke City. However, Elhamed is set to miss the Cup final on Sunday due to injury.

Austria international Bauer started on the right side of the defence against Hamilton on Wednesday night, while Frimpong had had a hand in four goals during his 11 appearances – even scoring in a 4-0 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Celtic fans are mulling over whether Bauer or Frimpong should start on Sunday afternoon against Rangers, with the chosen right-back likely to come up against Ryan Kent. Many Hoops supporters have opted for Frimpong.
