Celtic fell to a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Valencia on Thursday night and appear to be on the brink of a European exit.

The Bhoys now have a two-goal deficit after the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 fixture, with Denis Cheryshev and Ruben Sobrino scorers for their Spanish opponents.

Brendan Rodgers’ team were unable to find any cutting edge going forward despite home advantage and once again appear to be falling over at the knockout stages of a European competition.

The Scottish giants are desperate to make strides forward, but they can’t appear to replicate their domestic dominance against other teams.

They are going to need a monumental effort to turn the tie around out in Spain next week and will need to cut out defensive errors.

A selection of Celtic fans on Twitter singled out defender Jozo Simunovic for major criticism and believe he was completely ineffective.

The 24-year-old centre-back was caught out positionally for one of the Valencia goals, while his distribution of the ball wasn’t quite up to scratch too.

He got the nod to start in the heart of defence against Dedryck Boyata, but the pair struggled against Valencia.
