Celtic fans react to reported interest in Brighton defender Shane Duffy

Celtic have reportedly made a move to try sign Brighton defender Shane Duffy – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have expressed their delight at the speculation.

According to the Daily Mail, Bhoys manager Neil Lennon has spoken to the Irish centre-back about a potential season-long loan and he’s keen to spend a season in Scottish football.

The report does explain though that any potential move to Parkead is still someway off, as they need to compromise over loan fees and wages.

It is further understood that West Ham, West Brom and Burnley are also interested in trying to sign the 28-year-old from their Premier League rivals.

Duffy has proven himself to be a warrior defender during a four-year spell with Brighton and has been a rock at centre-back during 91 Premier League appearances for them.

He’s a towering 6ft 4in defender that is useful from set-pieces in both boxes, but also has a composure on the ball to help play out from the back.

Neil Lennon’s side go into this season knowing if they clinch the Scottish Premiership title it will be a historic 10th consecutive league triumph for Celtic, something that is particularly important to the fans.
