Celtic have completed the signing of Jonathan Afolabi. According to BBC Sport, Afolabi has agreed terms on a two-year contract at Celtic, joining the Scottish champions on a free transfer.

Afolabi has been a free agent since leaving Southampton. The young striker was offered a new contract by the Saints but has turned that down in pursuit of another challenge.

The Republic of Ireland U21 forward will now develop his game in Scotland. He was present at Celtic Park for the Bhoys’ extra-time win over Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup.

Afolabi has been with Southampton’s academy for several years now but he has decided to move on. Last season, the 19-year-old scored four goals in the Premier League 2 – England’s U23 league.

He is a highly-rated young attacker but he might not be ready for first-team action. And after Celtic crashed out of the Champions League, some fans have expressed frustration at this addition.

With many fans believing the club need to prioritise a new full-back addition, a young striker was not considered to be a priority. Nevertheless, Afobali has joined and here are some Twitter reactions.
