Celtic went into last night’s game against RB Salzburg looking for another big European home performance to end their visitors’ 100 per cent record in the group and earn themselves a spot in the last 32 of the Europa League.
Their night only partially went to plan as they went down 2-1, which left their fate out of their own hands and needing to rely on Rosenborg for a favour their performances in the previous five matches of the group had scarcely suggested they were capable of.
But that’s exactly what happened; a 1-1 draw between them and RB Leipzig sent Celtic through in second place, allowing Parkhead to breathe a huge sigh of relief at full-time.
And one man will have been more relieved than anyone that the Bhoys are still playing European football; Craig Gordon made a shocking error on 78 minutes, which allowed the Austrians to make it 2-0 and left his side on the verge of elimination.

He produced a carbon copy of Loris Karius’ first mistake in last season’s Champions League final, contriving to roll the ball out directly into the path of Fredrik Gulbrandsen to slot home and all but kill the game.
Despite Gordon’s blushes being spared elsewhere, Celtic fans still had their say on a shocking mistake that could have cost their beloved side so dear…
