Celtic are reportedly targeting a move for 75-cap England international Joe Hart.

Record Sport is reporting that Celtic chiefs have already been in touch to let Hart know of their interest in his signature, with the 75-cap England international set to become a free agent when his Burnley contract expires at the end of the month.

It comes after The Telegraph reported that Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is ready to take another look at Fraser Forster this summer after his excellent campaign at Celtic.

Of course, most Celtic fans would want to see Forster come back for next season. But that is looking like a financially challenging deal to put together and Celtic may have to look at more cost-effective alternatives.

On the face of it, Hart is a no brainer. A double Premier League winner and former England number one, he has plenty of pedigree.

However, the 33-year-old has struggled for his best form for a number of years. That has included difficult stints at Torino, West Ham United, and Burnley. At the latter two, Hart never established himself as number one keeper, and Pep Guardiola’s decision to churn him out at Manchester City has always looked justified.

So the reaction from Celtic fans has been decidedly mixed. Many believe he is worthy of a chance, given his history and previous exploits. Others think he is past it and Celtic must pursue a deal for Forster.
