A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight after James Forrest suggested, in comments reported by BBC Sport, that his new contract at Parkhead is all but agreed.

BBC Sport reports that the winger’s current deal with the Hoops is set to expire in 2022. Forrest has made a fantastic start to the season, scoring nine goals in 23 appearances in all competitions.

And it appears that he is set to be rewarded for his fine form. The 28-year-old has confirmed that he is edging closer to committing even more of his future to the Bhoys.

“It’s near enough done, everything is basically agreed,” he said, as reported by BBC Sport.

“I’ll be delighted to get that done really soon and just keep focusing on playing.”

It looks to be a fantastic piece of business to agree fresh terms with Forrest. Not only has he scored four goals in the top flight this year, but he also currently tops the Scottish Premiership charts for assists. He is two clear of James Tavernier, with six coming so far.

And unsurprisingly, the large majority of Celtic fans on social media have suggested that they are over the moon to hear Forrest’s comments on his future.

Celtic have responded to their pre-international break blip superbly. Neil Lennon’s men have won their last three games, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one in that time. They top the Premiership, and their win over Lazio has left them in a brilliant position in the Europa League.

And it appears that many of the supporters feel that Forrest extending his contract will only keep the momentum going heading into the coming games.

Here is how some of the fans reacted to the midfielder’s comments…
