A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to express their surprise at seeing Boli Bolingoli’s performance in the Champions League as Istanbul Basaksehir beat Manchester United 2-1.

As things stand, it would appear difficult to imagine Bolingoli playing for Celtic again. As noted by BBC Sport, he cost £3 million when he joined from Rapid Vienna.

He arrived in the same window in which fan favourite Kieran Tierney left Parkhead. Unfortunately, he did not manage to really fill the void that the Arsenal star left behind.

His form was mixed, and he seemed to come in for plenty of criticism. And he left on loan in the summer under a cloud after breaching coronavirus rules in August (via Sky Sports).

It was the Turkish champions who took the 25-year-old for the season. And of course, that meant that the Belgian would get the chance to play in the Champions League.

It had not been an easy start for Okan Buruk’s side. They had lost their opening two group-stage games, scoring none and conceding four.

However, they picked up their first points in the competition on Wednesday as they beat Manchester United 2-1 at the Fatih Terim Stadium.

And for the Celtic fans watching the game, they were incredibly surprised to see Bolingoli produce an impressive performance. He did well against United’s attackers, and managed to cause a couple of problems of his own going forward.

Here is how some of the Celtic supporters reacted to Bolingoli’s display…
