Celtic fans react as Luca Connell shines in win over Hibernian

Celtic earned an excellent 3-1 pre-season friendly win over Hibernian on Monday afternoon at Parkhead despite fielding a weakened side – and many Celtic supporters were impressed with Luca Connell’s display.

The Hoops continued their preparation for Sunday’s opener against Hamilton with a clash against Hibernian, with Neil Lennon mixing a number of first-team players along with younger stars, such as Karamoko Dembele.

Olivier Ntcham captained a side that also included Hatem Abd Elhamed, Ismaila Soro, Patryk Klimala, Anthony Ralston and Leigh Griffiths – the latter starting the match on the bench. Connell came on at half-time.

Celtic finally got going as Dembele cancelled out Josh Doig’s opener for Hibernian. But it was Polish striker Patryk Klimala that proved the difference in the second half, netting a brace for the Scottish champions.

Tapping home Leigh Griffiths’ chip, Klimala made it 3-1 inside the last 10 minutes with a well-placed header. Connell came on in midfield at half-time and looked in excellent form – despite the 19-year-old yet to make his senior debut.

Many Celtic fans reacted to the Ireland youth international’s performance for Celtic on Monday afternoon and they were impressed with the former Bolton Wanderers star – and some have questioned why the Liverpool-born star does not play more often.
