Celtic fans react as Kris Commons urges Neil Lennon or Rangers to look at player

Kris Commons has urged both Celtic and Rangers to take a look at Hibernian attacker Martin Boyle after he netted two goals for Jack Ross’ side on Saturday afternoon – and Hoops fans have responded on Twitter.

Boyle, 27, starred for Hibs last season despite injury limiting the Australia international to just 28 appearances in all competitions. In that time, he managed to have a hand in 14 goals – scoring six and creating eight.

He started the 2020-21 season in supreme form on Saturday, netting twice in a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock. Boyle played under the stewardship of Lennon, before the Northern Irishman returned to the Celtic dugout.

Commons claimed in his Daily Mail column that both Celtic and Rangers should consider a move for Boyle – given that he has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Easter Road. He even suggested a bargain figure.

“Having played with Martin Boyle for a few months during my time at Hibs, I can vouch first-hand about just what a talented boy he is,” Commons said. “I know for a fact that Neil Lennon rates him highly.

“He [Lennon] thoroughly enjoyed working with him during their time together at Easter Road. I also don’t see why the likes of Rangers shouldn’t at least have a look at him and explore the possibility of making an offer.

“With just a year left on his contract, Boyle wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. He could be available at a knockdown price. I reckon a bid of around £250k would be enough to at least ask the question of Hibs.”

Rangers have plenty of options out wide, which has left the likes of Jake Hastie forced to go on loan and Jordan Jones expected to leave in the coming weeks. Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent remain first choice.

But Celtic could do with additions on the flanks. James Forrest and Mo Elyounoussi are first choice while the versatile Mikey Johnston is an option, but Lennon has little other option than that.

Celtic fans responded to Commons saying the Hoops should consider Boyle, and many are in agreement.
