Celtic fans react as Jozo Simunovic makes first league appearance of the season

Jozo Simunovic was handed his first Scottish Premiership appearance of the season by Celtic manager Neil Lennon on Wednesday evening against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park – but Hoops fans are already becoming fed up of the defender.

Simunovic, 25, started in a back three alongside Christopher Jullien and Kris Ajer. It was the Croat’s first league game of the season, after undergoing knee surgery earlier in the campaign – and just his ninth outing of the campaign.

Celtic earned all three points with a comfortable 3-1 win thanks to goals from Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Jullien. The first two goals, tidily finished by Edouard and Griffiths, were created by the impressive right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Nicke Kabamba got one back for Killie midway through the second half as he diverted Alan Power’s shot into the net, but Griffiths turned provider to set up colossus Jullien – who netted his fifth goal for the Scottish champions.

Simunovic, though, did not come through the match with pass marks. The £3million signing (Mail) was arguably at fault for Kilmarnock’s goal, while Jullien and Ajer impressed once again alongside the former Dinamo Zagreb man.

Celtic fans have reacted on Twitter to the defender’s display, with many criticising Simunovic for his part in Killie’s goal. It must be said that it was only his second outing since August, but it seems Hoops fans are frustrated with the centre-back.
