Jose Mourinho has claimed that Brendan Rodgers has made the wrong decision in leaving Celtic now to join Leicester City – and Celtic fans have reacted on Twitter.
Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Mourinho has told BeIN Sports that Rodgers was right to leave Celtic to move to Leicester. But he reckons he should have left the Hoops in the summer, rather than now.
“If I were in his position, I would take Leicester’s offer of arriving now, and I would say ‘I want to, but not now.’ He should have stayed in Scotland and become a champion again – leaving in the right moment,” Mourinho said.
Rodgers left Celtic with the Scottish champions sitting in first place, eight points ahead of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. The club are in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, and have already won the League Cup.

But the Northern Irish boss opted to go against the prospect of a legacy. Winning the treble treble has never been done. Celtic fans displayed a banner that read: ‘You traded immortality for mediocrity, never a Celtic, always a fraud.’
Now, Mourinho’s criticism comes after Leicester were beaten in Rodgers’ first game in charge – losing 2-1 in injury time to Watford. Andre Gray scored the winner in the 92nd minute.
Celtic fans took to Twitter in reaction to Mourinho’s comments, with many stunned that they were in agreement with the ex-Real Madrid manager. One fan even Tweeted: “Get him in the Celtic job.”
