Jonny Hayes lasted the entire 90 minutes as Celtic came from behind to produce a magical win over Lazio as Olivier Ntcham chipped in during injury time – and Hoops fans have raved over Hayes, who started in place of Boli Bolingoli.
Hayes, 32, started alongside a defence of Christopher Jullien, Kris Ajer and Hatem Abd Elhamed on the left side of defence – tasked with keeping Manuel Lazzari quiet. It looked as though it was going to be a long night, to begin with.
That is because Lazzari’s stunning cross found Ciro Immobile at the back post. The on-fire striker volleyed home with a tidy finish, too quick for Fraser Forster to stop. But Celtic came roaring back.

The Hoops grew into the game, under the lights at the Stadio Olimpico. Indeed, Hayes began to focus and Celtic equalised before the end of the first half. A lovely pass from Mo Elyounoussi found James Forrest, who hammered the ball into the net.
In the second half, former Aberdeen star Hayes was in much better form – as were the rest of the Celtic side. In the 95th minute, a poor pass allowed Odsonne Edouard to capitalise – feeding Ntcham who finished with aplomb.
Celtic fans reacted on Twitter to Hayes’ display, with many urging Neil Lennon to offer Hayes a new deal – as the left-sided player’s contract expires at the end of the season.
