Celtic fans react as Jeremie Frimpong is linked with Southampton
Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong has been linked with Premier League club Southampton – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have responded by claiming they wouldn’t mind seeing him sold.
According to the Scottish Sun, Southampton are one of several clubs that are lining up a potential swoop for the Bhoys right-back.
It is explained that a number of English Championship teams are eyeing the 19-year-old, as well as top-flight outfit Southampton.
The report adds that Frimpong has held discussions with the Hoops about extending his deal at Parkhead, which expires in 2023, but no agreement has yet been reached.
Frimpong has been a regular starter under Celtic boss Neil Lennon, making 21 appearances across all competitions already this season.
After joining in 2019, the Dutch teenager made a strong start to life in Scottish football with a breakthrough in the first-team and he put in some bright individual performances.
He is an attack-minded full-back that is dangerous when he flies forward with pace and directness, but the defensive side of his game still looks someway short at this early stage of his career.
A selection of Celtic supporters on social media have suggested they would be open to granting Frimpong’s sale if Southampton decide to ramp up their interest.
Here are some Bhoys fans discussing Frimpong:
Think in the right team (certainly not us) he could be a huge player
