Celtic earned a 3-1 win over Hibernian as a weaker side was fielded by Neil Lennon at Parkhead in another pre-season friendly ahead of Sunday’s opener against Hamilton – and Celtic fans have praised Ismaila Soro.
Soro, 22, joined Celtic in the January window but the Ivorian is yet to make his Hoops debut – only appearing on the bench as an unused substitute against Clyde in the Scottish Cup earlier in the season.
The £2million (Scottish Sun) signing started and finished the match alongside captain-for-the-day Olivier Ntcham in midfield in a side that consisted of a mixture of first-team players and youngsters.
Anthony Ralston, Hatem Abd Elhamed, Soro, Ntcham and Patryk Klimala started the game – while youngsters Conor Hazard, Stephen Welsh, Kerr McInroy, Karamoko Dembele, Scott Robertson and Ewan Henderson also got the nod.
It was pocket-sized attacker Dembele that cancelled out Hibernian’s opener after a pass from Ntcham set Dembele away. Klimala tapped home a winner inside the last 10 minutes, after substitute Leigh Griffiths chipped the keeper.
Klimala made it three late on as he headed home to end an excellent pre-season for the Polish powerhouse, who also scored in a 1-1 draw with Patrick Vieira’s OGC Nice in the Veolia Trophy.
Celtic fans have reacted on Twitter to the win, with many praising Soro for his display in midfield. The African controlled the space in front of the defence, and his efforts have won plaudits among the Hoops fanbase.
