Celtic fans react as Gary Hooper retweets fan urging club to ‘bring him back’

Gary Hooper has hinted on Twitter that he could be tempted to rejoin Celtic this summer from English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday – and Celtic fans are desperate to see the forward signed.

Hooper, 31, has confirmed on Twitter that he is to leave the Owls when his contract at Hillsborough expires. That current deal ends on June 30, meaning he is basically a free agent.

The Englishman has hardly played for Wednesday this season, only clocking up six appearances. It is a stark contract to his wonderful three years at Celtic between 2010 and 2013.

A fan suggested Celtic should sign Hooper with the striker out of contract, and Hooper hinted he would be interested to work under Lennon again by retweeting the supporter’s post.

Neil Lennon brought the striker to Parkhead in what was one of Celtic’s first signings under the Northern Irish boss. He scored 82 goals in 138 games, and won two Scottish Premiership titles during his three-year spell at Celtic.

But he was sold for little over £5million in the summer of 2013 to Norwich City. A fox in the box, Hooper will now be looking for a new club this summer. Celtic do have options up front, but Lennon could fancy a reunion.

Celtic fans took to Twitter after spotting Hooper retweeting the Hoops fan, and many are desperate to see the pocket-sized goal machine in green and white for a second spell.
