Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has congratulated Celtic on Twitter after Neil Lennon’s side confirmed their eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title – and Hoops fans have reacted.

Celtic finally confirmed their league win with an excellent 3-0 win over Aberdeen on Saturday. Goals from Mikael Lustig, Jozo Simunovic and Odsonne Edouard saw the Hoops secure an easy win at Pittodrie.

Even though Rangers beat Hibernian 1-0 at Ibrox on Sunday, Celtic have been crowned champions as their nine-point lead is now unattainable for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Bannan, who played for Celtic during his youth career between the ages of 12 and 14 before moving south to Aston Villa, congratulated Lennon’s men on Twitter for their league triumph.

Bannan has been on fire of late. Wearing the number 10 shirt for the Owls, he has scored two goals and laid on two assists in his last three league games. He has four goals and 12 assists for the season from midfield.

Renowned for his long-range shooting, the pocket-sized midfielder has an excellent left foot. A set-piece specialist, he is technically superb and is just as good in possession as he is splitting an opponent’s defence.

Celtic fans reacted on Twitter to their former youth player’s Tweet, with many urging the ex-Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Blackpool star to return to Parkhead where he may have unfinished business.
