Celtic have reportedly initiated talks with the representatives of free agent striker Steven Fletcher after the target man’s contract expired at Sheffield Wednesday – and Hoops fans have responded on Twitter.
Fletcher, a 33-time Scotland international, was in excellent form last season – scoring 13 goals in 27 Championship outings for Wednesday. But with the Owls in a difficult financial situation, he has left on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old almost joined Celtic back in 2009 from Hibernian, only for his first club to reject a move to the Hoops. Now, 11 years on, he could be on his way to Parkhead as the Hoops look to secure 10 in a row.

The Daily Record claim Celtic have initiated talks with Fletcher’s agents. The Hoops are desperate to sign a striker, with Ivan Toney and Albian Ajeti of Peterborough and West Ham linked – but Fletcher represents the cheap option.
Fletcher has enjoyed an excellent career down south, scoring goals for Burnley, Wolves and Wednesday – as well as French club Marseille during a loan spell. Now, a return to his home country could be on the cards.
Celtic supporters reacted on Twitter to the news that Fletcher could be signed on a free, and some Hoops fans think he would be a good addition to Lennon’s side with the 2020-21 campaign already underway.
