Celtic are rivalling a number of Premier League clubs in the reported race for Hibernian teenager Josh Doig, as the left-footer continues to impress despite his tender age under Jack Ross – and Hoops fans have responded on Twitter.
Doig, 18, has impressed for Hibernian since breaking into the senior side this season – clocking up his 20th outing for the Edinburgh club on Wednesday night during a 1-0 home defeat to Rangers at Easter Road.
A left-back, the teenager – who has been called up by both Scotland’s Under-19 side and at Under-18 level – is also able to play on the left side of the midfield. He has operated in both positions under Ross this season.
Now, Goal claim Leeds, Manchester City and Celtic are pursuing a deal while Arsenal and Chelsea have also looked at the defender. It is believed a fee of just £1million will be enough to tempt Hibs into selling the left-footed flyer.
Celtic do have options on the left, with Diego Laxalt coming from AC Milan in the summer – and he could be allowed to join permanently. Greg Taylor is also an option, while Boli Bolingoli is out on loan at Basaksehir, but expected to leave permanently.
Celtic supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reports that Neil Lennon could raid his old side and sign Doig – and many feel he would be a good addition to the side, though any deal is expected in the summer.
No bad wee player once we get rid of lennon and bring in a manager who can develop players he would be a great prospect
