Celtic are reportedly looking to sign Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie this summer as the tough-tackling midfielder’s contract looks set to expire – but Celtic fans are desperate for their club to overlook the Dons star.

The Bristol Post claimed English Championship side Bristol City are interested in signing the 27-year-old Scotland international, but face plenty of competition.

The report also claims that both Old Firm sides Celtic and Rangers are interested in the left-footed midfielder. His contract expires at the end of May, and is available on a free.

Pictures have also emerged over the last 24 hours that looks as though Shinnie was spotted at Derby County’s stadium, where he could potentially be signing for Frank Lampard’s outfit.

Lee Johnson is close to pushing his Bristol City side into the Championship play-offs and a move to Ashton Gate may see Shinnie playing in the Premier League next season. That could tempt the midfielder.

But the chance to win silverware at Celtic – or even Rangers – may prove just as tantalising for the Dons skipper. There is much made of an Aberdeen player leaving to join the Old Firm sides, though. Just ask Ryan Jack and Jonny Hayes.

Celtic fans reacted on Twitter to the news that their club are interested in midfielder Shinnie. But the majority are of the opinion that he simply would not be good enough for the Scottish champions.
