Charlie Austin has told Open Goal’s YouTube channel that he would be open to a move to either Celtic or Rangers should the Old Firm sides become interested this summer – and Celtic fans have responded on Twitter.

Austin, 30, is currently turning out for West Brom after the former QPR striker joined the Baggies from Southampton last summer, costing just £4million (BBC). He has scored just nine goals in 30 outings – but has started just 17 times.

The striker is now halfway through a two-year deal he signed last summer, and given he is not first choice under Slaven Bilic – he may look to leave the Hawthorns this summer when he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

Asked by former Swindon Town teammate Si Ferry on the Open Goal Youtube channel whether he would consider a move to Celtic or Rangers, Austin replied honestly – stating he would certainly consider such an opportunity if it arose.

“The Old Firm derby is the pull isn’t it to play in Scotland,” Austin told Open Goal. “You want to win things as such too. If the opportunity came up would I go? I think so yeah.”

Celtic do have options up front but French striker Odsonne Edouard could be on the move this summer, with a whole host of Premier League clubs said to be interested. Vakoun Bayo and Patryk Klimala are yet to hit the ground running.

Celtic supporters responded on Twitter to the news that Austin has confirmed he would consider a move to Parkhead – as well as Rangers – and some are keen to see their side go after the uncapped Englishman, while some are not.
