Yesterday saw Tottenham Hotspur dealt a thrashing at the hands of German giants Bayern Munich at home. The Bundesliga champions decimated Spurs with a 7-2 drubbing in North London, leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s team in a state of disarray.
The result has caused reverberations around Europe and prompted quite a reaction from Celtic fans.
Fans of the Scottish champions are fairly upset about the perceived double standards dealt out to Spurs compared to Celtic when they were on the receiving end of a Champions League pummelling.
Celtic were hammered 7-1 by Paris Saint-Germain back in November 2017. At the time, there was plenty of reaction in the media suggesting that Celtic had no place in the Champions League based on the result.
Scottish football was put down heavily in the aftermath and it was not helped by the fact Celtic had lost 5-0 at home to PSG earlier in the competition.

Celtic fans feel Tottenham are being let off lightly in comparison, especially considering the Glasgow side managed more respectable 2-1 and 3-0 losses to Bayern when they met in 2017.
Whilst Celtic fans are perhaps right to feel slightly aggrieved at the way they were treated after the PSG defeats it must be remembered that Tottenham were in the final of the Champions League just a few months ago. Celtic, on the other hand, were knocked out of the qualifiers for the Champions League by CFR Cluj this season. That result could be avenged on Thursday when the clubs meet in the Europa League.
Sometimes a team is simply much better on the day. Celtic found that out twice against a Neymar-inspired PSG whilst Tottenham were shoved aside by a clinical Bayern on the rise.
It does not mean neither team deserves to not play Champions League football.
