Celtic fans praise Brown’s performance in battling win against St Johnstone

Celtic picked up an away win and a clean sheet to maintain momentum in the title race and the supporters were impressed with the contribution of skipper Scott Brown.

Having played the same amount of games as bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers, Celtic now sit six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, with a gap of ten goals on goal difference to boot.

That is due to a hard-fought 2-0 win on the road against St Johnstone yesterday, sealed by late goals from James Forrest and Timothy Weah.

It was looking like it might be a frustrating afternoon for Brendan Rodgers’ side before Forrest struck 12 minutes from time to break the deadlock, with Weah making the game safe as the game entered stoppage time.

Kristoffer Ajer’s injury time red card was the only blot on another pleasing afternoon for the Bhoys – putting the backline under more pressure – which puts the pressure back on Steven Gerrard’s side as they gear up for their trip to Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

It was the kind of game where Scott Brown generally flourishes, a hard-fought battle where spirit and leadership were needed and the Scotsman delivered.

He has had his injury problems this season and the Daily Mail reported in December that he had an offer on the table to leave the club to go to Australia but Celtic confirmed he signed a new deal last week, which allows him to get on with securing yet another trophy.

And the supporters were more than happy with their leader’s performance in a tricky match, as confidence begins to build that they will once more retain their title…
