Celtic fans must give unpopular Jack Hendry a chance to prove himself

Celtic are through to the semi-finals of the League Cup after picking up a win against St Johnstone last night. It was not, however, the vintage performance that Celtic fans were hoping for in response to the weekend loss to Kilmarnock.

It took a late Leigh Griffiths strike and a bit of luck after a Scott Bain mistake and Dedryck Boyata red card late in the game, but Celtic got over the line.

However, there were perhaps more negatives to take from the game than positives. One of which is the injury to Kristoffer Ajer. The Norwegian limped off with a hamstring problem and could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

With Filip Benkovic struggling with an Achilles problem, it seems Celtic may again have to cl upon Jack Hendry.

The £1.5 million January arrival from Dundee has not exactly impressed Celtic fans with his performances for the club just yet.

When called upon he has struggled to have the impact fans expect and Celtic have looked ropey at the back.

But rather than dreading this opportunity, Hendry must take it as a chance to prove why Brendan Rodgers signed him in the first place.

Celtic are relying on the young defender to find his feet during this crisis at the back. If he doesn’t, then Celtic fans may never be won around by his apparent talents.
