The Daily Mirror reported at the weekend that Celtic are eyeing a summer move for Burnley wide-man Robbie Brady as his contract runs down.
Brady is reportedly yet to agree a new deal with the Clarets. And it was suggested that Celtic are monitoring his situation and could look to bring him to Parkhead.
It could be a coup for the Hoops to sign the 29-year-old – who earns £35,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. He has made 16 appearances in the Premier League this term, including 12 starts for Sean Dyche’s side.
He could still have a lot to offer the Scottish Premiership champions. And he is a player who can play in a variety of positions in defence and in midfield.
He is also a player that one member of the Celtic squad may be very happy to see arrive at the club.
In truth, Shane Duffy’s loan spell has not worked out so far. The defender has come in for a lot of criticism having struggled to live up to expectations.
There seems a good chance therefore, that the Hoops will show little interest in keeping him next season. But, whether he is at Celtic or not, there is no question that Duffy will be keeping an eye on how the Bhoys get on given his love for the club.
And based on a comment he made about Brady last year, the centre-back may be very pleased if the reported target ends up at Celtic.
Duffy lauded Brady following a game for the Republic of Ireland in which the wide-man set up the Brighton loanee for an equaliser.
“I fancy myself every game, if the delivery is right,” he said, as reported by The Argus. “I had a few chances. I knew when Robbie came on I was going to get a chance from him. He’s got a wand of a left foot.
“He knows where I like it. He stuck it on my head and put it in.”
Celtic may really benefit from having additional quality down their left flank. Greg Taylor has silenced a lot of his critics in recent times. But adding a player with a ‘wand’ of a left foot could make a real difference heading into next season.
