Celtic fans love what new signing Jota did in the first half against Real Betis
Celtic eventually succumbed to a 4-3 defeat to Spanish outfit Real Betis on Thursday night – but fans love what new signing Jota did in the first half.
Ange Postecoglou’s side came into the match with numerous senior stars missing. Kyogo Furuhashi was the big absentee, with Albian Ajeti up top.
Adam Montgomery got a start on the left, while Greg Taylor’s absence saw Josip Juranovic continue at left-back. Callum McGregor was also missing.
Despite the absentees, Celtic got off to a flying start. Ajeti continued his resurgent form after a brace on the weekend, by opening the scoring.
Then, he won a penalty – albeit rather theatrically – which new siging Juranovic dispatched with aplomb. But it all began to unravel.
Betis scored two goals in three minutes just after the half-hour mark, and a deflated Celtic were left to do it all over again. Then, Betis struck again.
Just after the restart, Betis scored on 51 minutes and 53 minutes – leaving Celtic 4-2 down with 37 minutes still to play, having lead 2-0.
What are Celtic fans saying about Jota, and his assist against Betis?
They got one back thanks to a strong header from Ralston. While it was a brave, yet defensively clueless display, Jota caught the eye of Celtic fans.
Signed on a loan-to-buy deal, the winger supplied the assist for Celtic’s first goal. A gorgeous cross from the left flank, which Ajeti bundled home.
Celtic fans loved his delivery into the box, praising Jota on Twitter.
